Dr. Johanna Budwig — The Wickenheiser of Alternative Cancer

If you have been following my blogs, I have spent several blogs discussing Dr. William Kelly, who in my opinion is the most prolific practitioner of cancer therapy of all time. That’s why I gave him the title “the Gretzky of alternative Cancer”, referring to Wayne Gretzky, now retired hockey great. Along similar lines, I now want to delve into the cancer therapy of “German Genius”, Dr. Johanna Budwig, whom I will classify as the “Wickenheiser of Alternative Cancer”.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Woman’s International Hockey, Hayley Wickenheiser is a female Canadian hockey player, who is considered by many to be the greatest female hockey player in the world and probably all-time. In Canada, we are very proud of the performance of our men’s and women’s national ice hockey teams who both are reigning Olympic champions. Our woman’s team is captained by Hayley Wickenheiser, who has represented Canada at the Winter Olympics four times, capturing three gold and one silver medal and twice being named tournament MVP. In addition to this, she has also represented Canada in softball in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. She is the only non-goalie female to ever play professional men’s hockey, as she played forEskilstuna Linden in Sweden 2008. Being female never stopped her from playing with the “big boys”. So to be consistent with my hockey analogy I consider Dr. Johanna Budwig to be the “Wickenheiser of Alternative Cancer”.

Who is Dr. Johanna Budwig?

Similar to Hayley Wickenheiser, Dr. Johanna Budwig never let her female gender get in the way of her playing with the “big boys” in the medical world. Dr. Budwig (1908-2003) was a German quantum physicist, chemist, and pharmacologist who was allegedly nominated 6 times as a finalist in Nobel Prize voting for her extensive work on oils and essential free fatty acids. She also received doctorates (PHD’s) in physics and chemistry. According to cancertutuor.com, “In Germany in 1952 she was the Central Government’s Senior Expert for fats and pharmaceutical drugs. She’s considered one of the worlds leading authorities on fats and oils.” This was Germany’s version of the FDA in America, and Dr. Budwig was their national expert. Dr. Lloyd Jenkins ND reports,

“After some 50 years of successfully helping over 2,400 people with cancer and other illnesses regain their health, she knew she was really on to something of monumental importance in the field of health.”

Her numbers may not equal Dr. Kelley’s, but as we shall soon see, her protocol in some way eclipses Dr. Kelley in her ability to revive to terminally sick. Cliff Beckwith, 10 year survivor of Stage IV advanced prostate cancer while using the Budwig diet, says of his research on Dr. Budwig,

“Dr. Budwig to my knowledge had over 1000 documented successes. However, her work was not popular with the Oncology Industry in Europe. Her ideas would have meant a lot of losses in the Food Industry [too]; especially in the fats industry.”

Dr. Budwig claimed a similar success rate to Dr. Kelley at over 90% of her patients. What is all the more impressive is that Dr. Budwig claims to have taken on patients so sick that they were within days or even hours from death, and was able to revive them and get them well. Here are some of her quotes in this regard,

“in fact 99% of the sick that come to see me to use the biological method of cancer therapy, are cancer patients who have had operations and radiation sessions, or who were diagnosed as being too far advanced for an operation to be of any help. Even in these cases health can be restored, usually within a few months, I would say in 90% of cases.”

“I often take very sick cancer patients away from hospital where they are said to have only a few days left to live, or perhaps only a few hours. This is mostly accompanied by very good results.”

What is also so amazing about Dr. Budwig’s protocol, is that it is a fairly simple and relatively inexpensive therapy. To me, one of the greatest signs of brilliance, is someone who can take highly complex information and be able to break it down simply, at even a child’s level. Scientists, doctors, and the intelligentsia who persist at talking in high medical language, really show a lack of intelligence if they are unable to break down their knowledge into laymen terms. Renound Quantum Physicist Max Planck said in this regard,

“When someone thinks he has discovered something new but he cannot as a scientist so express it that everybody understands, then he hasn’t discovered anything new at all

This is what Dr. Budwig was able to do with the deep complexity surrounding the cause, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. The signature aspect of Dr. Budwig’s therapy is the combining of 2 common everyday foods, cottage cheese and flax oil (CC/FO is the abbreviation). If you are thinking, come on Brent, you can’t possibly be saying that cancer can be cured simply by eating a simple mixture of flax oil and cottage cheese. This is not the only part of Dr. Budwig’s protocol, but yes, it is the main part. I don’t blame anyone for being skeptical initially, I know I was when I first read it. Most cancer researchers react the same way until they look at the deeper chemical process behind this food combination. Some completely reject the simplicity of CC/FO to cure disease. Dr. Budwig stated,

“Various highly trained and educated individuals are dismayed and irritated by the fact that serious medical conditions can be cured by cottage cheese and flaxseed oil.”

Dr. Dan C. Roehm M.D. FACP (oncologist & former cardiologist), in the 1990’s investigated Dr. Budwig’s protocol and here is what he concluded,

“I only wish that all my patients had a PhD in Biochemistry and Quantum Physics to enable them to see how with such consummate skill this diet was put together. It is a wonder.”

“This diet is far and away the most successful anti-cancer diet in the world”.

Former Research Director of the National Foundation for Alternative Medicine in Washington DC, Lothar Hirneise said this about the Budwig diet,

“Of all the nutritional theories that I have investigated, Dr. Johanna Budwig’s is definitely number one … Nowhere in the world have I found not even remotely such fantastic cases as with Dr. Budwig. It’s phenomenal.”

H. Wilhelm, one the leading authorities on the budwig diet today, sums up Dr. Budwig’s protocol quite succinctly,

“It is a scientifically well thought out, all natural approach to health, that has a tremendous rate of success and track record… and it costs next to nothing. I think that if it were very expensive and much money could be made on it, it would be much more popular because it would be pushed by business. But as it stands, it doesn’t lend itself to it.”

In fact, the main reason why Dr. Budwig’s protocol is not more widely known in the mainstream cancer world, is that she refused to sell the rights of her therapy for profit. She felt that cancer treatment should not be contaminated by corporate profit. Her fears have been proven correct as cancer now is about a billion dollar/day industry. Dr. Budwig stated,

“I have the answer to cancer, but American doctors won’t listen. They come here and observe my methods and are impressed. Then they want to make a special deal so they can take it home and make a lot of money. I won’t do it, so I’m blackballed in every country.”

What was Dr. Budwig’s understanding of the nature of cancer?

After studying thousands of blood samples from patients suffering from cancer and other chronic disease, she found that the blood of the diseased contained a strange yellowish-green substance (cytochrome) which was substituting the place of healthy, red, oxygen-carrying hemoglobin. The blood of the healthy was more of a bright red and did not contains this yellow-green substance. She then found that this substance was caused by a lack of Omega 3 fatty acids in the sick patients blood versus an adequate supply of Omega 3 fatty acids in the healthy.

Another name for Omega 3 fatty acids is essential fatty acids (EFA’s). One of the main reasons why they are essential is that they are critical at the cellular level. Dr. Kelley looked at how enzymes could break down the thick fibrin layer of the cancer cell membrane so that it could be properly destroyed by the immune system. Dr. Budwig focused on what actually caused the formation of the cancer cell in the first place. Dr. Burzynski has studied how the genes (oncogenes) convert regular cells into cancer cells, but Dr. Budwig focused on how a defective cell membrane results in the creation of cancer cells. As you can see, cancer can be attacked at many different levels, and each of these alternative cancer doctors are solving the “cancer puzzle” piece by piece. Hopefully, one day we will be able to combine them all in a synergistic way and finally put this cancer “devil” in the history books.

As we all know, our body runs electrically and we are dependent on this free flow of energy to survive. Our heart pumps 24 hours a day using this energy, our brain functions electrically on this energy, and Dr. Budwig discovered that our cells also depend on this energy. A typical cell, like an atom, has a positively charged centre (nucleus) and a negatively charged thin outer layer (membrane). Dr. Budwig found that the critical protection for healthy cells is maintaining the negatively charged field of electrons in the outer membrane. When this charge is not properly maintained, cell division is disrupted and the future daughter cells become sick and diseased, thus producing cancer cells. To maintain this field of electrons in the outer membrane, our cells need Omega 3 fatty acids (EFA’s) which are electron rich substances. The EFA’s provide this charge because they come from foods which are exposed to light energy from the sun. The sun gives the EFA’s these negatively charged electrons, and when we eat EFA’s, our cells remain healthy by maintaining a negatively charged membrane. When the membrane is charged properly, oxygen can flow freely into the cell, but when the charge is disrupted oxygen has a difficult time getting into the cell.

The health of our cells is actually a tale of 2 types of fats (oils). When we injest good electron rich fats our cells maintain their charge, but when we injest bad fats our cells lose their electron charge. Dr. Budwig wrote in her book “Flax Oil as a true aid against arthritis, Heart infarction, cancer, and other diseases”,

“This is the crux of the matter. Are all fats the same? Why had fat become so pressingly important at that time? How is it that fats can both cause tumours to form and also to dissolve?….. on the one hand the industrial solidification of fats and, on the other, the enormous importance of natural, electron rich, vital, highly unsaturated fats

We need the good oils which are highly unsaturated fats (EFA’s), and we must avoid the “industrial” bad oils (hydrogenated oils, trans fats). The problem occurs when eat bad oils and fats (ie. trans fats, hydrogenated oils) and they act as free-radicals which disrupt and override the good fats and oils (EFA’s) bonding to the cell membrane. This essentially clogs the oxygen flow into the cells, and they start to suffocate. Dr. Otto Warburg, in 1931 discovered that the root cause of all cancer cells is oxygen deprivation. He received the Nobel Prize for this discovery of cellular respiration. Dr. Warburg wrote,

“…the cause of cancer is no longer a mystery, we know it occurs whenever any cell is denied 60% of its oxygen requirements. Cancer, above all other diseases, has countless secondary causes. But, even for cancer, there is only one prime cause.”

The North American diet is excessively too high in these bad oils and fats and very deficient in the good fats. The process of hydrogenation, is what is at the core of this problem. Most oils bought in the supermarket have been hydrogenated to increase the shelf life of the canola oils, vegetable oils, margarines, etc… . Hydrogenation is a chemical process which uses high heat to break bonds for hydrogen atoms to bond to. So then, healthy unsaturated fats & oils are converted into unhealthy saturated fats (trans fats). Unsaturated fats have weaker bonds and break down and go rancid when exposed to heat, light, and air. Saturated fats have much stronger bonds and this keeps the oils stable on the shelfs of supermarkets longer.

So, through hydrogenation, the once healthy unsaturated fats now become poisonous trans fats, all for the sake of shelf life!! Nice trade-off!! In fact, much of the food we eat has been modified in various ways for shelf life. There are very few oils that are strong enough to remain healthy when used for cooking and baking oil (ie. grapeseed oil, coconut oil, sesame oil, camelina oil), our problem is that most of the baking and cooking oils we use are hydrogenated (ie. vegetable oil, canola oil, margarines). Our french fries, fried chicken, cakes, pies, donuts, cookies, peanut butter etc… are most of the time cooked in hydrogenated oils. You can see why we have a cancer problem in North America.

These oils lose their electron charge during the hydrogenation process and when they start to bond to the cell membranes, they act like free-radicals and steal away electron charge instead of providing charge to the cell membrane. When enough of this charge of electrons is taken away and not provided by new electron rich EFA’s, the cell short circuits and the battery in the cell become “dead” like a car battery. It is like a car battery losing it negative electrode. Without both a positive and a negative electrode, a car battery cannot flow electricity. If the cell membrane loses its negative electron charge, the cell in a sense loses its negative electrode and the cell charge is “dead”. When this happens our cells become oxygen deprived, they start to suffocate, then the cells do not divide properly, the daughter cells become sick, then cancer cells develop and eventually become tumors. Dr. Budwig puts it like this,

“The formation of tumors usually happens as follows. In those body areas which normally host many growth processes, such as in the skin and membranes, the glandular organs, for example, the liver and pancreas or the glands in the stomach and intestinal tract—it is here that the growth processes are brought to a stand still. Because the dipolarity is missing, due to the lack of electron rich highly unsaturated fat, the course of growth is disturbed—the surface-active fats are not present; the substance becomes inactive before the maturing and shedding process of the cells ever takes place, which results in the formation of tumors.”

How do we restart the battery in the cells?

In Dr. Budwig’s book “Cancer – The Problem and the Solution” she refers to a physicist named Kenneth Ford who in 1966 found that plants absorb solar energy from the sun and this energy is stored in the electrons of the seed oils from these plants. So, it is the seed oils which carry these photons from the sun which provide our bodies this energy when we eat them. Dr. Budwig states,

“And this absorption of solar energy in seeds is already adjusted in the green leaf to certain very specific wavelengths; science refers to this via the quantosomes.”

According to Dr. Budwig, the solution to restarting the cell is two-fold, get the bad out and get the good in. Intake of hydrogenated oils or oils heated above their stability point must be eliminated from our diets. At same time, oils that contain electron rich EFA’s and more specifically, Omega 3 fatty acids, must be taken into our bodies by our diet or transdermally by applying these oils to our skin. Once the bad oils have been eliminated from our bodies, the cell membranes no longer get clogged up with electron deficient oils. When taking in the good oils, the electron charge is re-established in the cell membrane which results in a proper balance of charge (dipolarity) in the cell. Cell then have adequate energy to perform proper functioning and healthy cell division takes place. No more cancer cells are made because the cells receive adequate oxygen, and the existing cancer cells & tumors fade away. The body has been recharged like a lithium battery.

VS.

How do we get Omega 3’s to our cell membranes?

Flax Oil vs. Fish Oil vs. Camelina Oil

This is where the flaxseed oil comes into play. Flax oil is considered to be the richest source oil for Omega 3’s in the world today (up to 57% of its content is Omega 3). There is some debate on this issue as fish oils are also very good sources of Omega 3’s (ie. salmon, cod liver, sardines, krill). Cod liver oil has long been used as a health oil due to its high concentration of Omega 3’s as well as its decent levels of Vitamin A & D. Though fish oils are very good sources of Omega 3’s and other vitamins, in our changing world of pollution, there are concerns about mercury, PCB, lead, and cadmium contamination. These poisonous substances have been found in fish, and show up in larger quantities in larger fish. There is also concern that modern fish farming of salmon has been shown to greatly decrease the Omega 3 level in the salmon tissue. Wild Salmon contain good levels of Omega 3 due to their natural diet in the wild. Fish oils have definitely been shown to be an excellent source of Omega 3’s, but vigilance must be done to ensure a lack of contamination.

Dr. Budwig’s protocol centres around the use of field grown flaxseed oil, but before one follows her regimen, one should understand that flax oil has its strengths and its weaknesses. Due to its extremely high level of Omega 3’s it is very powerful, but flax oil is also very fragile. Flax oil is very easily oxidized and must be refrigerated continually, stored in a dark bottle, and not be heated. When stored at room temperature, the shelf life of flax oil is only about 3 weeks, whereas when it is refrigerated it lasts about 4 months. Its smoke point is a very low 225 degrees F, so it is not a cooking oil. When oxidized, flax oil acts like hydrogenated oils by producing the opposite effect that Dr. Budwig intended, by acting like a free-radical causing damage to our cells rather than energizing them.

In my research on flax oil, I came across another oil called Camelina oil, which is sometimes referred to as “wild flax”. It is very similar to flax in Omega 3 content (up to 45%), yet it eclipses flax oil in several ways. First, Camelina contains many anti-oxidants which help combat free-radicals in the body. Second, it is much more stable than flax oil, so it resists oxidation and maintains a long shelf life. This makes Camelina safer in many respects, because there is less concern of rancidity. Third, Camelina oil can be used for cooking as its “smoke point” is much higher at about 475 degrees F, which gives additional options for Omega 3 intake. Lastly, many consider Camelina to be a much nicer tasting oil than flax or fish oil, as it has an almond-like taste and aroma.

Dr. Budwig’s focuses on the use of flax oil, so I would be cautious about substituting Camelina oil in its place though it does makes sense in many ways. If one is finding it difficult to find a retailer that sells refrigerated flax oil, it may make sense to use Camelina. Flax still contains the higher percentage of Omega 3’s, but to me it would make sense to use Camelina at the same time. One must use their own common sense here.

Why mix cottage cheese with flax oil?

Getting the electron rich Omega 3’s from flax oil to our cell membrane requires the right kind of delivery system. Flax oil, on its own, is not soluble in water and therefore not soluble in the blood. Oil and water, simply don’t mix, so to make flax oil soluble in the blood and accessible to the cell membrane, it needs a change in chemical composition. Dr. Budwig found that when flax oil is mixed and bonded to a sulphur-containing protein like cottage cheese or quark (german cottage cheese), this combination then becomes water-soluble and can be carried in the blood and easily absorbed into our cell membranes. According to the Cancer Cure Foundation website,

“Lipids are only water-soluble and free-flowing when bound to protein; thus the importance of protein-rich cottage cheese. When high quality, electron-rich fats are combined with proteins, the electrons are protected until the body requires energy. This energy source is then fully and immediately available to the body on demand, as nature intended”

So as you can see, mixing cottage cheese with flax oil is not some fanciful concoction from a dairy farmer’s bad dream. It is actually designed by Dr. Budwig from many years of scientific study at a cellular level. The cottage cheese acts like a delivery truck for the flax oil. Without the cottage cheese, when one injests flax oil it must go through the digestive system and is not as easily absorbed into the cells. Flax oil on its own does have many health benefits such as constipation relief, heart disease prevention, and cholesterol reduction, but it doesn’t have Dr. Budwig’s cellular energy support without cottage cheese.

When mixing the flax oil with the cottage cheese, Dr. Budwig recommended a ratio of 2 parts cottage cheese per 1 part of flax oil. Ideally, one should work up to taking 3 tablespoons of flax oil mixed with 6 tablespoons of cottage cheese and take this twice daily (morning & evening). The Budwig Centre in Spain gives these instructions on their website on how to properly make this mixture,

  • To make the Budwig Muesli, blend 3 Tablespoons (British dessert spoons) of flaxseed oil (FO) with 6 Tbps low-fat(less than 2%) Quark or Cottage Cheese (CC) with a hand-held immersion electric blender for up to a minute If the mixture is too thick and/or the oil does not disappear you may need to add 2 or 3 Tablespoons of milk (goat milk would be the best option). Do not add water or juices when blending FO with CC or quark. The mixture should be like rich whipped cream with no separated oil. Remember you must mix ONLY the FO and CC and nothing else at first. Always use organic food products when possible.
  • Now once the FO and CC are well mixed grind 2 Tbps of whole flaxseeds and add to the mixture. Please note that freshly ground flax seeds must be used within 20 minutes after being ground or they will become rancid. Therefore do not grind up flaxseeds ahead of time and store.
  • Next mix in by hand or with the blender 1 teaspoon of honey (raw non-pasteurized is recommended)
  • (Optional) For variety you may add other ingredients such as sugar free apple sauce, cinnamon, vanilla, lemon juice, chopped almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashews (no peanuts), pine kernels, rosehip-marrow. For people who find the Budwig Muesli hard to take these added foods will make the mixture more palatable. Some of our patients have even added a pinch of Celtic sea salt and others put in a pinch of cayenne pepper for a change

Sandra Olson has provided a video on youtube which gives a good demonstration on how to properly prepare the FO/CC mixture. Click on this link www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSoddptWL0s

The Importance of Sunshine

Getting an adequate amount of sunshine is a critical part of Dr. Budwig’s protocol. Once the body has acquired the right oil-protein balance with the cottage cheese and flax oil, the body develops better absorption power to access the healing powers of the sun. Yes, sun-bathing has been a bit of a taboo activity in recent years because it has been connected to possible development of skin cancer. This is true if one is continually getting sunburns and generally over-doing their time in the sun, but many do not realize that getting a proper amount of sun is essential to our health in many ways.

Most know that sunshine is important to maintain adequate vitamin D levels in our body. Vitamin D is a powerful antioxidant that has been linked to preventing many diseases including cancer. Deborah Kotz from the US News writes,

“If you’re fair skinned, experts say going outside for 10 minutes in the midday sun—in shorts and a tank top with no sunscreen—will give you enough radiation to produce about 10,000 international units of the vitamin…..the sunshine vitamin may protect against a host of diseases, including osteoporosis, heart disease, and cancers of the breast, prostate, and colon. What’s more, sunlight has other hidden benefits—like protecting against depression, insomnia, and an overactive immune system.”

It is estimated that about 90% of the Vitamin D we receive comes from sun exposure, though those that live in northern climates (ie. Canada) during the winter time do not get adequate sun exposure. This explains why us northerners tend to get more flu, colds, and other sicknesses during the winter. A study by the Department of Cancer Biology in North Carolina found,

“Believe it or not, prostate cancer rates increase as you move from southern latitudes to northern latitudes. In other words, you are at greater risk the further north you live. Scientists have linked ultraviolet light and vitamin D to a reduced risk of prostate cancer.”

It is quite clear that us northerners need additional vitamin D in the winter time and maybe even half of the year. Taking vacations or extended time in the southern hemisphere (ie. Florida, Caribbean) is not only good for stress relief, but also ideal way to keep your Vitamin D levels up. Not to mention the additional benefits of magnesium & iodine when taking a dip in the ocean. According to the Vitamin D Society other ways to increase your Vitamin D are,

UVB Exposure
Natural Sunlight – 10,000 – 20,000 IU per day, in summer, 10am – 2pm
Tanning Bed with UVB – 10,000 IU per session

Food
Salmon – fresh, wild, 3.5 oz – 400 – 1000 IU
Salmon – farmed, 3.5 oz – 100 – 250 IU
Fortified Milk – 8 oz – 100 IU

Supplements
Vitamin D3 – from 400 – 1,000 IU in tablets or liquid

Dr. Michael Holick Ph.D, MD gives this summary of the health benefits and disease incidence prevention
that could be achieved by raising the public’s vitamin D levels to 125 nmol/L:

  • Rickets, reduced by 100%
  • Osteomalacia, reduced by 100%
  • Cancers, all combined, reduced by 75%
  • Breast Cancer, reduced by 50%
  • Ovarian Cancer, reduced by 25%
  • Colon Cancer, reduced by 67%
  • Non-Hodgkins, reduced by 30%
  • Kidney Cancer, reduced by 67%
  • Endometrial Cancer, reduced by 35%
  • Type 1 Diabetes, reduced by 80%
  • Type 2 Diabetes, reduced by 50%
  • Fractures, all combined, reduced by 50%
  • Falls, women reduced by 72%
  • Multiple Sclerosis, reduced by 50%
  • Heart Attack, men, reduced by 50%
  • Peripheral Vascular Disease, reduced by 80%
  • preeclampsia reduced by 50%
  • Cesarean Section, reduced by 75%

For Dr. Budwig sunlight has a different importance

Well you can see I am quite the pusher of Vitamin D, but in actuality when Dr. Budwig discusses the importance of sunbeams, she does not mention Vitamin D. Her focus was on the importance of photons from the sunbeams and their interaction with vital activities in our body. It is the interaction of photons from the sun and the electrons in proper food that provide the synergistic effect on healing our body. Eating the electron rich flax oil/cottage cheese mixture, must be connected with adequate exposure to sunlight. According to Mike Vrentas from cancertutor.com, Dr. Budwig felt the importance of photons was because they are the purest form of energy, the purest wave, and in continual movement. Dr. Budwig stated,

“electrons are already a constituent of matter, even though they are also in continual movement and that electrons love photons, attracting each other due to their magnetic fields. There is nothing else on earth with a higher concentration of photons of the sun’s energy than man. This concentration of the sun’s energy—very much an iso-energetic point for humans, with their eminently suitable wave lengths—is improved when we eat food which has electrons which in turn attract the electro-magnetic waves of sun beams, of photons

When you eat the FO/CC mixture, your body becomes a better antennae for the photons from the sun. Your body develops a better ability to absorb the energy from the sun and transfer it to your cells to perform their vital functions. You become energized at a deep level, and when this happens diseases fade away. This is why the Budwig protocol not only has success with cancer, but also Arthritis, Heart Infarction, Irregular Heart Beat, Psoriasis, Eczema (other skin diseases), Immune Deficiency Syndromes (Multiple Sclerosis and other Auto Immune Diseases), Diabetes, Lungs (respiratory conditions), Stomach Ulcers, Liver, Prostate, Strokes, Brain Tumors, Brain (strengthens activity), Arteriosclerosis and other chronic diseases.(from Cancertutor.com)

Become a Super hero

I am reminded of the scene in the most recent Superman movie, when Superman was greatly weakened by the Kryptonite island that he chucked out into space, but after he was separated from the kryptonite and he was falling back to earth, the sunlight re-energized him and he became the powerful superman again. For us hydrogenated oils and trans fats are our kryptonite, and our energy source is the combination of Omega 3 fatty acids from our food (FO/CC) which provide electrons to our cell membranes and their interaction with the photons from the sun. When we completely avoid the bad oils and fats (oils actually are fat) and pump in the good oils and fats with adequate sun exposure, we are turned into photon-electron charged “supermen or superwomen” ready to fight the evil diseases whenever they show their nasty heads.

Mike Vrentas also commented on what Dr. Budwig found with her patients,

“Dr Budwig found when she treated patients and had them lie in the sun she noticed they started feeling much better and became rejuvenated. She referred to the sun as having a stimulating effect on the secretions of the liver, gall bladder, pancreas, bladder and salivary glands. Dr Budwig also stated “Matter always has its own vibration, and so, of course, does the living body. The absorption of energy must correspond to one’s own wave length.” It appears apparently that sunlight is absolutely essential for the stimulation effect of the vital functions of the mind and body, contributing to the factors which allow the body to heal itself.”

The Budwig protocol is widely practiced around the world in alternative circles and here is a testimony from Jack Phelan when he began using the FO/CC mixture with sunlight,

“We all felt an increased feeling of general well-being, a feeling of lightness, more energy, better circulation and, when in the sun, I felt the healing power of the sun affecting my skin much differently than before. Also, every week or two, I become aware of feeling better in different ways. Old aches go away, my skin improves and I am able to do things better. One woman felt so good about it that she gave it to her children and said that right away she could see improvements in their skin tone. As she spoke, I saw that her own skin had more color and was radiant. And this was only about two days after she started taking the oil-protein combination.”

What else is there to the Budwig protocol?

It should be clear by now that Dr. Budwig’s main focus was finding a way to get Omega 3 fatty acids into the body to support the electron charge in the cell membrane. Eating the FO/CC mixture was her main focus, but she also used other means to increase Omega 3 absorption in the body. Dr. Budwig recommended transdermal (skin application) of a specific oil mixture called ELDI oil (Electron Differentiation Oils). Mike Vrentas has found that this ELDI oil is something like a 60% flax oil, 40% wheat germ oil mixture. The exact percentage mixture is actually unknown now, but it is somewhere in this neighbourhood. The same ELDI oil that Dr. Budwig used can only be purchased from Germany from Wolfgang Bloching at Wolfgang.Bloching@t-online.de . These transdermal approaches are to be done in conjunction with the FO/CC diet.

Dr. Budwig used this ELDI oil in 3 different ways to increase Omege 3 absorption in the body. 1

1) Full body oil massage & hot shower

2) Oil packs for specific areas of application

3) Enema oil application

Full Body ELDI oil massage

Transdermal therapy (skin application) is actually a widely used practice used to delivery medication to the body. There are many advantages to administering a medicine transdermally versus orally (by mouth) or intravenously (needle in vein).

1) Transdermal application avoids the stomach acids and digestive enzymes in the stomach and the liver, thus increasing the percentage of medicine that actually makes it to the bloodstream.

2) The large surface area of pores in the skin allows for rapid absorption into the body. When heated (ie. hot shower) our skin pores open wider which allows greater absorption.

3) The skin acts as a protective buffer which allows the medicine to be absorbed gradually and as the body needs. So in a sense it is almost impossible to overdose of any medicine when applied transdermally

Dr. Mark Sircus OMD, promotes transdermal magnesium therapy in the prevention of many diseases. Here is his view on transdermal therapy,

“In fact it is one of the best ways of administering medicines quickly and effectively. Transdermal methods of delivery are widely used because they allow the absorption of medicine directly through the skin….It is not a surprise, when you consider the large surface area of the skin, that when you apply a substance to the entire body, rapid absorption and resultant effect is sufficient to put transdermal administration on par with other ways of administering drugs.”Learn more: http://www.naturalnews.com/024142_skin_medicine_magnesium.html#ixzz1ypHFp8X0
When one receives a full body massage with the ELDI oil, the Omega 3’s are absorbed into the bloodstream. Having a full body massage decreases tension and stress as well, which is important when fighting any disease. This type of treatment beats the heck out of chemo, radiation, or surgery!! Oil massage is a quite enjoyable way to fight disease.
To increase absorption of the ELDI oil, after full body application Dr. Budwig advised a warm shower for 15-20 mins without soap. The warm water opens up the pores on the skin wider and this increases absorption of the ELDI oil. Once this has been done, another shower can be taken with soap to wash off the oil so that it doesn’t get on your clothes. If this is not a concern, then just leave it on without soap. Dr. Budwig recommended this full body application be done 2 times/day (morning & evening).
ELDI Oil Packs
Packs or what is commonly known today as Patches are used to apply medicine to a specific areas of need transdermally. Some may have heard of the nicotine patch to help smokers or Suzanne Somers’ promotion of Glutathione patches which deliver this powerful antioxidant to the bloodstream to battle cancer. Actress, Suzanne Somers has actually done extensive research in the area of alternative cancer research. When reading her books it becomes evident that she is not the dumb blonde she portrayed in her acting career. Her recent book “Knockout” is quite informative.
Dr. Budwig would use oil packs to focus absorption of Omega 3’s in a specific area of concern (ie. tumor, a diseased organ, arthritis at a joint). It would only be used for a local problem, not metastasis. Here is how she would apply the oil pack (from Healingcancernaturally.com)
“Take a piece of cloth made of pure cotton. Cut to size to fit the body part, such as the knee. Soak the cotton, place on the knee etc., cover the cotton with a plastic sheet and wrap it up with an elastic bandage. Leave on overnight. Remove in the morning and wash the knee; repeat in the evening. Keep reapplying the same procedure for weeks. You can also use Eldi Oil R for these local applications. The oil pack is only suitable for local problems (no metastases).”
ELDI Oil Enemas
If you have been reading my blogs on Dr. Kelly, you would have read my lengthy discussion on coffee enemas. Before researching alternative cancer practitioners, I knew little about enemas or why they are used. I have found enemas to be a very common practice because the rectal area gives very direct absorption of medicine to the body. You may notice that all these transdermal methods all avoid the digestive system. Dr. Budwig used enemas to absorb her ELDI oil into the body when someone was so sick that they could not eat the FO/CC. She would use this on patients with little time to live. Here are some instructions healingcancernaturally.com on how to properly do an ELDI oil enema,
Heat ……….ccm Eldi Oil R in a bain-marie. Inject the lukewarm Eldi Oil via irrigator, enema syringe etc. Use long rubber tip if preferred. If possible, have patient positioned with knees and elbows on the floor and buttocks slightly raised. When all the oil has been absorbed, have the patient first lie on their right side for c. 15 minutes and then on their left for another 15 minutes
Dr. Budwig did not give exact details on how she did these enemas, but there are many resources on the internet which explain how to do a proper enema.
Other Considerations with Dr. Budwig’s Protocol
Dr. Budwig used other variables that are fairly common with any alternative cancer practitioner, and similar to Dr. Kelley.
1) Eating healthy food as “God intended”. According to Cancertutor.com “DR BUDWIG STRESSED THAT IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO AVOID UNHEALTHY FOODS & SUBSTANCES such as hydrogenated fats, animal fats, sugar, white flour, preservatives, chemicals and processed foods. Avoid leftovers – food should be prepared fresh and eaten soon after preparation to get the health-giving electrons & enzymes-within 15-20 minutes.”
2) Moderate exercise was advisable but don’t overdo it as your body needs to heal. This helps keep the circulation and lymph system going and transporting those necessary Omega 3’s in the blood.
3) At least 3x a day drink a warm liquid, such as green or herbal teas, sweeten only with raw honey.
4) Take care of your emotional state as we are psycho-somatic beings. Avoid stress and anxiety; take time to relax & enjoy each day. Listen to beautiful music, laugh, do deep breathing, connect with nature, and spend time with people you like. Dr Budwig spoke about the damaging effects of stress.
5) Be careful about taking supplements as some may interfere with the protocol. There is a widely used internet chat room where you can ask questions about more specifics on the Budwig regimen at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/FlaxSeedOil2/files/
6) Dr. Budwig was completely against conventional methods of chemotherapy and radiation. She viewed them at “obsolete”. Here are some of her quotes in this regard,
“The representatives of chemotherapy pose another problem. Our chemotherapy is aimed at destruction of the tumor, and it is recognized that chemotherapies destroy many living cells, and the entire person. Anything that disturbs growth is fatal because growth, as elementary life function, is part of the life process of man. We cannot achieve something good with bad tools.”
“I totally reject radiation and chemo; I also reject hormonal treatment for abdominal cancer. However, operations must be considered very individually. This also applies for tumors in the intestine. I am not a proponent of quickly creating an artificial anus.”
“The promotion provided by electrons built up by the sun and stored in seed oils is important in overcoming the blockages in the tumor, which the obsolete scientists incorrectly fight with growth-inhibiting medications. The growth-inhibiting medications we currently use as chemotherapies are wrong. The energy produced by the X-ray devices is also wrong, because it has a growth-inhibiting effect.”
“The radiations used in official allopathic medicine with synthetically produced radioisotopes works against this life process. It breaks down existing energy depots, destroys the gentle substance of the magnetic fields (spin of the electrons) which are indespensible for the energy transport in human beings.”
Concluding Thoughts on the Budwig Protocol
Dr. Johanna Budwig was truly a German Genius. She was able to compile research from other great scientists (ie. Otto Warburg) to develop an understanding of cancer and chronic disease at a cellular level. Not only that, she was able to develop a simple inexpensive regimen to deliver those all important Omega 3 fatty acids directly to the cells with her flaxseed oil/cottage cheese mixture. She was a tough woman who could humble any scientist or doctor with her wide knowledge of chemistry and quantum physics and their practical relation to chronic disease. Not only did she heal 1000’s of people from cancer and other chronic diseases, her protocol is now practiced around the world, just not in our conventional medical system.
Clearly, the Budwig protocol needs to be tested in official clinical trials, but if you have been following my blogs, the odds are stacked against this. Not only did Dr. Budwig have little use for the Big 3 conventional cancer treatments, her world-renown work on oils has proven there is a real problem in the hydrogenated oil business, processed food industry, and pharmaceutical industry. These are all multi-billion dollar industries that want to keep it that way, so the Budwig protocol is a real threat to them. Dr. Budwig refused to sell out to corporate profit and that is probably why her regimen has remained in the alternative cancer underground. Only time will tell whether our “obsolete” conventional cancer methods will be replaced or at least optioned out by Dr. Budwig powerful cancer protocol.
Why don’t we conclude on a positive note with some testimonials from Healingcancernaturally.com,
Brain cancer
Sun Nov 30, 2003
I [know] a man in Canada who was a direct patient of Dr. Budwig. His condition was advanced with a tumor in his head called adenoma. His vision was already affected so that he could not recognize the color red anymore.

He went to Germany to see Dr. Budwig in October 1997, came back to Canada and began his treatment. He followed her regimen exactly. Two weeks later he began feeling better. Three weeks later his vision began to improve. A few months later he had the feeling that the tumor was gone. Sometime after that it was confirmed by an independent medical examination. He is well and active and runs his own business. He is still following the Budwig regimen except not quite as strict as before.

The beauty of Dr. Budwig’s protocol is that it is effective against a wide variety of cancers, perhaps all of them – even leukemia. I have not heard of any exclusions.

Breast Cancer

Hello Mr. Beckwith:
I gave a copy of your testimony to a lady who had one breast removed and was given a grim diagnosis that the cancer had spread and that within a year she would likely be back to remove the other one. She had received all the chemo and radiation she could take. The surgeon basically sent her home because there was nothing else they could do. She told me that she had no energy and that she had to give up all her activities. She believed that there was no hope and that it was just a matter of time.

She started the flax oil. For the first few days she felt more tired than ever. The fourth day she began to feel a surge of energy. She continued to feel stronger and stronger. Within a couple of weeks she felt so good that she re-joined all the clubs and activities that she had to abandon before. She went on a trip to Eastern Canada that involved a lot of walking and said that she had no problems at all.

Two weeks ago she had an appointment with the surgeon and found that the other breast was fine and that she had no sign of problems. He told her to come back in a year for another check-up.

She phoned me yesterday to thank me again for the info that gave her life back. According to her, she was already taking vitamin supplements and good eating habits but it was the flax oil that made this miraculous difference. She said that she would continue to take the 5 tablespoons of flax oil in yogurt.

Prostate Cancer

About six years ago a good friend of mine was found to have prostate cancer with a PSA of 10. He was scared to death and had an RP [radical prostatectomy]. The count was 0.0 and he was happy. A few months later it began to rise and again reached 10. He began to use flaxseed oil and cottage cheese at one tablespoon per day. The count went to 13. We talked about it together and he went to three tablespoons per day and the PSA began to drop. The last time I saw him a few months back he told me he had just had a PSA and the count was 0.0. He weighs about 220. In April 2000 he will be eighty.

Lung Cancer

I have endometrial adenocarcinoma stage IV now metastatic to lungs. My many tumors between the lungs have not grown since starting on the [nearly entire] Johanna Budwig protocol 8 months ago. I discontinued chemo last fall (my decision) as I knew I would not survive another treatment. Radiation and surgery are not options, per the doctors. Now my doctors say, “there is no medical explanation for why you are here”.
I feel and look great!
If [someone] has been given a dismal diagnosis, he/she has nothing to lose by trying the Budwig Protocol

Dr. William Kelley — Snake Oil Quack or Maligned Genius?

For those of you who haven’t read my last blog, this is actually a continuation of my research on alternative cancer practitioner Dr. William Kelley.  In my last my blog, I did my best to summarize his quite elaborate cancer protocol and the success he had with treating cancer.  Dr. Kelley claimed a 93% success rate for patients who came to him first (not after chemo, radiation, surgery).  He also claimed a fairly high success rate for those given 3 months to live at a slightly better than 50% chance.  For those with less than 3 months to live he claimed a 25-35% chance of survival.  In total, Dr. Kelley and his practitioners treated over a whopping 33,000 patients.  Dr. Kelley’s success with pancreatic cancer, the most deadly of all cancers, was especially striking (I will give details later).

The obvious question must be asked, “Why have most people never heard of Dr. William Kelley?”  Until about 4 months ago I had never heard of him.  Surely if his treatments are truly as successful as Dr. Kelley claimed, then all cancer centres in the world would have his treatment as an option at the very least.  Conversely one might also say, “Anyone can claim these type of success rates, it is quite another thing to have his medical records thoroughly investigated and have his treatments properly tested.”  This is a very valid statement, as our world has produced no shortage of “snake oil salesmen”.  Individuals who for whatever reason could not make a legitimate living and therefore resorted to fraud or number-fudging to sell their quacky supplements.

So, does Dr. Kelley bear the signs of a snake oil quack or maligned genius who has never been given his proper due?  I would like to challenge you, my reader, to reserve judgement on Dr. Kelley until you have heard a sufficient amount of information from all angles.  Do not rely on Wikipedia’s brief examination or a single study quoted from a quackwatch site.  As Oscar Wilde states,”the truth is rarely pure, and never simple“.   Truth, many times, is a hard thing to find, especially when powerful establishments in our medical community have monopolies setup which bring in billions of $$$$.  These establishments do not take kindly to anyone cutting into their bottom line.  I realize some may find this a bold accusation, but to me this is an inevitable conclusion to the serious student of alternative cancer practitioners, and alternative healthcare practitioners in general.  We would do well to heed the advice of American founding father Thomas Jefferson,

“If people let the government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take,
their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls who live under tyranny.” — Thomas Jefferson

As you may have gathered, my opinion on Dr. Kelley is no secret.  In this blog I will serve as a type of lawyer presenting his case to you, my jury.   In my last blog I explained his protocol, in this blog I will try to answer this question, is his protocol credible?  Again, I will remind you, that up until 4 months ago, I had never heard of Dr. Kelley, and I have nothing to gain in his promotion.  I am simply a man searching for truth in the fight against one of  humanity’s greatest enemies, cancer.  When I come across a truthbreakdown that is purposely being suppressed and at the same time leaves many lives in the balance, my blood starts to boil.   I will try to keep this boil under control as I write, but it may leak out from time to time.

Does Dr. Kelley bear the earmarks of a Snake Oil Salesman?

The Lack of Success Test

One of the signs to look for in a quack is someone who has not been able to make it successfully in real life pursuits (education, business).  If someone can honestly and legally earn a pretty good “coin”, why would they resort to quackery?  Charlatans generally get desperate and therefore resort to deception.  Does this fit Dr. Kelley?   Dr. Kelley had a Masters in Science (M.S.) degree as well as a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S).  According to the American Dental Association the average salary for a Dental Specialist, which someone with a D.D.S. would be, in 2004 was about $315,000/year.  According to the U.S Bureau of Labor, the average salary of an othodontist in 2008 was $195,000 and an established practice can see a net income of at least $400,000-500,000/year I could not find any specifics about Dr. Kelley’s salary as a Dental Surgeon/Othodontist, but the reports say he had a thriving practice in Dallas.  However you slice it, it appears Dr. Kelley had no problem making an honest living and most likely a well-to-do one.  I see no reason from a financial perspective for him to resort to quackery.

It is true that Dr. Kelley had financial difficulties late in his life, but this was decades after his first cancer therapy treatments.  These difficulties were multi-causal.  In 1976 the dental board of Texas suspended his dental license for 5 years because he persisted on doing “non-dental” cancer therapy.  In addition to this, according to an article by Dr. Gonzalez in the Townsend letter,

“he had become burnt out by years of hard work with the very sick, and by the relentless harassment by regulatory agencies, the conventional medical world at large, and the media. To make matters worse, his practice had never really recovered from the attacks brought on by his involvement with McQueen, so financially he was in terrible shape.”

The medical elite were truly “relentless” in making sure Dr. Kelley’s work did not see the light of day.  They blamed Dr. Kelley for the death of Steve McQueen.  According to Dr. Kelley, Steve McQueen was murdered by someone posing as a physician who injected him with a blood clotting agent.  Whether this is true or not will probably never be known for sure, but even if Steve McQueen did die in Dr. Kelley’s care with advanced mesothelioma cancer, does Dr. Kelly deserve all the harassment he endured from the media and the medical elite?  Conventional oncologists have no cure for this type of cancer and McQueen was given no hope by his own oncologists.  If every oncologist received the harassment that Dr. Kelley endured for losing a terminal cancer patient, would there be any oncologists left?  It is clearly not a level playing field.

To get a feel for what Dr. Kelley endured, listen to what he wrote in his book “One Answer to Cancer”,

“I was a most serious threat to their $100 Billion a year Industry. These lawless Establishment Devils went to work and:

  • Poisoned (food) me 3 times to the point of Grand Mall Seizures 3-4 times a week for 14 Months;
  • Tried to shoot me once during this time;
  • Sent the usual IRS agents to do me in;
  • Bought off and bribed my Lawyer and Accountant;
  • Set up a take over of the Kelley organization by employees and wife (standard Establishment procedure);
  • Offered Kelley $500,000.00 to kill a counselee;
  • Caused a vitamin manufacturer of supplements Kelley often used to take all active ingredients out of Kelley Program Supplements.”

You’re probably saying, come on Brent, Dr. Kelley is clearly a paranoid schitzo.  If this was simply an isolated incident, I may agree with you.  But having heard similar stories like this many times, it actually doesn’t surprise me.  Dr. Max Gerson, according to his daughter Chalotte, was poisoned with arsenic.  Dr. Gerson, verified this himself by testing his urine.  Here is a statement from Charlotte,

“Dr. Gerson had a somewhat low blood pressure and enjoyed one cup of coffee in the afternoon. He noted at one point that every evening, after having coffee served at his office, that he had violent cramps and diarrheas. He stopped taking this coffee but a subsequent 24-hour urine collection showed that he excreted arsenic! He did not die immediately; however this weakened him considerably and he subsequently contracted a viral lung infection that killed him.”

You would expect a snake oil salesman to be profiting from his quackery.  Dr. Kelley’s practice of cancer therapy did the exact opposite.  He lost his once thriving Dental practice, his marriage fell apart, and basically had a mental breakdown late in life.  To me, this shows that Dr. Kelley was in the cancer game for the right reasons.  He successfully cured himself of the most deadly type of cancer, pancreatic, and he wanted to “pay it forward” regardless of the personal cost to himself.  If you really think about it, if Dr. Kelley was able to cure himself of pancreatic cancer, and he clearly had a strong educational background in science (M.S. and D.D.S. degree), does it make any logical sense for him to have received all this backlash?  If the medical elite are truly interested in the advancement of finding a cancer cure, should not there be some room for experimentation with someone like Dr. Kelley?  What is the medical elite so afraid of?  Is it really the health of cancer patients?  Let’s not be naive, the main reason why the medical elite gets so vociferously upset with alternative cancer practitioners like Dr. Kelley, is $$$$$$!!  Dr. Kelley paid a hefty price for his “against the grain” cancer therapy.

This reminds me of the movie “Flash of Genius” starring Greg Kinnear.  Kinnear, portraying David Kearns, took on the Detroit automakers to keep his rights to his invention of the intermittent windshield wiper.  He lost his marriage and endured many years of turmoil as a result of his fight with Big Auto.  Eventually Kearns won his battle, but he paid a heavy price for this.  Only time will tell whether Dr. Kelley will ever receive his proper due.

As a whole, I feel Dr. Kelley passes the financial gain snake oil test.

The Hiding Out Test

You would expect someone peddling quackery would want to stay “under the radar”.  If you can get a good quack business going, you want to keep it going by not exposing it rigorous testing or evaluation.  If what you are peddling has no real value, you will be exposed, and say goodbye to your little venture.  Does this match Dr. Kelley?

After Dr. Kelley successfully beat his own pancreatic cancer (that alone should make every oncologist stand up and listen) he began treating others.  Once realizing his protocol was proving successful with others, Dr. Kelley wanted to investigate “mainstreaming” his protocol.  Dr Gonzalez notes from one of first meetings with Dr. Kelley,

“At this point in his life, Kelley said, he only wanted the chance to have his regimen appropriately and fairly evaluated in clinical trials.”

Dr. Gonzalez, as a 2nd year med student at Cornell University in New York in 1981, never knew Dr. Kelley or had any connection to him.  During this time, because of the McQueen incident, a friend of Dr. Gonzalez took an interest in Dr. Kelley.  Prior to entering medical school, Dr. Gonzalez had spent 7 years in journalism, and this friend encouraged Dr. Gonzalez to investigate this “alternative cancer practitioner” and possibly write a book about him.  Dr. Gonzalez  took on this challenge under the supervision of Dr. Robert A. Good M.D. PhD of the Sloan-Kettering Institute of Cancer Research.  Dr. Good was internationally known as the father of “modern immunology”, and according to Dr. Gonzalez he was “the most published author in the history of medicine.”  Dr. Good appeared on the cover of Time Magazine in 1973 because of his work in immunology, the thymus gland, and bone marrow transplants.  To me, having a young, energetic, and unbiased med student like Dr. Gonzalez take on this investigation of Dr. Kelley, under the direction of a world renown doctor like Dr. Good, sets a very credible foundation.

Time Magazine: Dr. Robert A. Good Toward the Cure of Cancer

Dr. Good, even with all his conventional medical accolades, had an open mind to the possibilities in someone like Dr. Kelley.  Dr. Gonzalez remembers Dr. Good saying,

“as a scientist, one must always look beyond the tried and true for the next new advance.”

Dr. Kelley, himself, was very excited to have someone of Dr. Good’s stature consider investigating his protocols.   Dr. Kelley surmised that he would finally be given a fair shake.  Dr. Gonzalez felt that whatever the result of his investigation, it would be enlightening.  Dr. Good, himself, gave this advice to Dr. Gonzalez,

“even if Dr. Kelley turned out to be a total charlatan, I would learn a lot of medicine by going down to Dallas to sort out what was going on in his office. A student always learns best, he said, when pursuing a project of his own devising, rather than an assignment picked by someone else.”

As you may have gathered by now, Dr. Gonzalez not only found much promise in Dr. Kelley’s cancer protocol, but  he now is the foremost practitioner of  Dr. Kelley’s protocol today.  This reminds me of the story of the former atheist and editor of the Chicago Tribune, Lee Strobel, who began a search into the tenets of christianity to prove its fallacy.  After a thorough investigation, Lee reached the opposite conclusion.   Now Lee is one of the leading christian apologists in the world today.

If  Dr.Kelley was knowingly practicing a snake oil cancer therapy, would he really want a young whipper-snapper like Dr. Gonzalez under the direction of world renown doctor Dr. Good, taking a close look at his patient’s medical records?  Highly unlikely.  Dr. Kelley clearly felt his cancer therapy had sufficient merit to be willing to submit his records to this scrutiny.  Dr. Kelley actually was very excited to have this investigation take place.

This not what you would expect from a snake oil salesman, so I say Dr. Kelley passes the hiding out test.

The Medical Records Test

There are 2 aspects to this test.

First, you would not expect a charlatan to keep a good record of his practice for the possibility of a possible investigation.  As in the Watergate Scandal with president Richard Nixon, chief of staff  H. R. Haldeman was supposed to “burn the tapes” to erase the evidence.  For a snake oil salesman, the only real need for records to be kept would be for billing purposes, not for the proper medical evaluation of their patient’s progress.

Second, you would not expect a snake oil therapy to be producing good results upon investigation.  Interviewing patients directly who were under Dr. Kelley’s care should have shown a clear lack of positive feedback.  As well, I think I have sufficiently shown that Dr. Gonzalez and Dr. Good had no special bias toward Dr. Kelley to fudge their investigation.  Dr. Good, especially, would not want his good name tarnished.  Dr. Gonzalez and Dr. Good had really nothing to gain and potentially lots to lose by investigating Dr. Kelley.   Proving Dr. Kelley to be a charlatan would have made a good book and would have definitely received accolades from the medical elite.

So what did Dr. Gonzalez uncover?

For about 5 years, from 1982 to 1986, Dr. Gonzalez was able to spend a considerable amount of time scouring over Dr. Kelley’s medical records and interviewing patients.  Eventually Dr. Gonzalez wrote a summary manuscript of his findings, which has now been published as a book called “One Man Alone”.  Dr. Gonzalez comments on his first initial findings,

” Kelley, as promised, opened his patient files to me without hesitation. I spent many hours each succeeding day poring over his records, and what I found I thought was quite remarkable: patient after patient with properly diagnosed advanced cancer, including pancreatic carcinoma, who had done well under Kelley’s care, either in terms of disease regression or significantly prolonged survival.”

Over the course of Dr. Gonzalez’s 5 year investigation (which was clearly not rushed), he reviewed over 10,000 patient records and interviewed over 1000 of Dr. Kelley’s patients with a special focus on a group of 455 of them who had done particularly well on his protocol.  He then summarized a detailed list of 50 case reports representing 26 different types of cancer.  Dr. Gonzalez was in continual consultation with Dr. Good to ensure proper execution of his investigation.  This was clearly a thorough, non-haphazard approach.  In a letter to Dr. Good, Dr. Gonzalez wrote,

“I found these results, particularly for pancreatic, quite intriguing. His overall survival rate for all cancer in this first group is 93% – and as I have found going through Dr. Kelley’s records, virtually all of his patients have advanced disease. Many have come to him because no further conventional treatment could be offered.”

So as you can see, the Dr. Kelley’s claim of a 93% success rate was also independently verified by Dr. Gonzalez.  As you can also see, Dr. Gonzalez was particularly intrigued with Dr. Kelley’s success with pancreatic cancer.  Dr. Kelley was able to reproduce similar results to his own personal success with pancreatic cancer.  Dr. Good was also keenly interested in any records that showed success with metastatic pancreatic carcinoma (pancreatic cancer).  Dr. Good told Dr. Gonzalez,

“if I could find even one patient diagnosed with the disease (pancreatic cancer) who had lived five years on this nutritional regimen, he would be impressed, since to his knowledge no one else in medicine anywhere had such a case.”

Even the late former CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs, with all his financial resources and high level intelligence could not beat pancreatic cancer with the most advanced present day therapies.  According to the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) the 5 year survival rate between 1950-1995 of someone with pancreatic cancer is a measly 3%.

Dr. Gonzalez was able to identify 22 cases of Dr. Kelley’s patients with pancreatic cancer who had consulted Dr. Kelley between 1974-1982.  Of the 22 cases, 10 of them had not followed Dr. Kelley’s protocol for a single day.  All of these 10 were now deceased and had an average survival of 63 days.  They were encouraged by their doctors and family members to give up on this “unconventional approach”.

As an aside, were any of these doctors or family members held accountable for this advice?  I think you know the answer to that one.  The only ones ever held accountable for advice which leads to death are “alternative practitioners”.  On top of that, why would a doctor recommend a change in protocol if conventional medicine only has a 3% success rate or less with pancreatic cancer.  Of all the types of cancer, doctors should be the most open-minded toward pancreatic, but  it is clear that years of anti-alternative indoctrination becomes an almost  insurmountable wall to cross.

Dr. Gonzalez also identified a group of 7 pancreatic cancer patients who partially followed Dr. Kelley’s protocol.   With this group some had followed Dr. Kelley’s protocol anywhere from 4 weeks to 13 months.  Of these 7 patients, all were now deceased and the average survival increased to 302 days.  Dr. Gonzalez noted that this was longer than would be expected as the average life expectancy is anywhere from 3-6 months.  He also found that these individuals also received a lot of pressure from doctors and family members to give up on the protocol.

The final group Dr. Gonzalez identified were 5 patients who had fully complied with Dr. Kelley’s protocol.  By the time Dr. Gonzalez had completed his study, all 5 of these patients were still alive and had an average mean survival of over 8 years!!  Dr. Kelley’s personal success with pancreatic cancer was remarkable enough, but then to have 5 of his patients beat it as well was truly astounding.  In actuality, this surmounted to a 100% success rate for those who fully followed Dr. Kelley’s protocol.  A sample of 5 patients may be too small to authoritatively announce to the world about 100% success rate with pancreatic cancer, but as Dr. Good originally stated, he would be impressed with even a single successful case report of a 5 year survival of pancreatic cancer.

Now with Dr. Gonzalez having reviewed Dr. Kelley’s patient records very thoroughly, one would expect that his final manuscript would be applauded and well-circulated.  Dr. Gonzalez said that at the time of his manuscript completion,

“Dr. Good no longer had the financing, the resources, or the power base that would have allowed for further laboratory and clinical studies under his tutelage. “

Given this fact, Dr. Good recommended that Dr. Gonzalez’s next best option was to get his manuscript published in book form for an eventual peer-review process.  Dr. Gonzalez tried intently on doing precisely that, but he strangely didn’t get the response he was looking for.  He noted,

“over the next year, no publisher, either trade or scientific, agreed to back the book, nor would any medical journal consider excerpting portions, even a case report or two. Some editors just didn’t believe that the records could be real, that an unconventional nutritional therapy could reverse advanced cancer. Others accepted the data as legitimate, but thought that the book would generate so much controversy that it might jeopardize their careers .”

Dr. Gonzalez began to realize that “alternative cancer therapies”, not matter how successful they are, are not treated on a level playing field.  Dr. Good finally recommended a personal friend of his for whom he felt would give Dr. Gonzalez a fair analysis of his manuscript.  Ironically, even this personal friend of Dr. Good reacted quite vociferously to the manuscript.  He even accused Dr. Good of being “hoodwinked by a scam artist”.   This shocked Dr. Good quite deeply and had a clear detrimental impact to Dr. Good’s continued support of Dr. Kelley or Dr. Gonzalez.

Just when Dr. Gonzalez began giving up any hope of getting his manuscript supported by mainstream medicine,  in 1987  the Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) began an investigation into Dr. Gonzalez’s manuscript.  He and Dr. Kelley thought this was a promising development.   In the meantime, news of this manuscript began to popularize in alternative circles and even in Japanese conventional circles.  Dr. Atkins, the famous diet doctor, even interviewed Dr. Gonzalez on his radio show.

When the OTA finally came out with its report in 1990, it was strangely condemning by focusing  on Dr. Kelley’s legal troubles rather than the data Dr. Gonzalez had collected.  It became a character assassination rather than a fair examination of the data.  I have seen a similar state of affairs in my research on the creation/evolution debate.  Instead of the arguments being based on the actual evidence, the evolutionary establishment resorts to name-calling and character demeanor.  “You’re stupid” is a common quote you hear which clearly denigrates the integrity of proper scientific investigation.  Ben Stein’s movie “Expelled” gives a good commentary on this controversial topic.

With all this negative feedback and continuous harassment, Dr. Kelley himself began to breakdown.  He began to even accuse Dr. Good and Dr. Gonzalez for colluding with the establishment against him.   In 1995, even the prolific Dr. Good began to separate himself from this assault by stating in an interview that the patients in Gonzalez’s study “didn’t have cancer”.   Dr. Gonzalez felt he was hung out to dry by Dr. Good.   After all, Dr. Good had earlier reviewed and approved all the cases in the manuscript.   This goes to show you how effective the establishment can be at pressuring even to the most prestigious of medical doctors who go against the grain.

Dr. Gonzalez, quite bewildered when looking back on the history of his 22-year-old manuscript states,

” It has been the subject of a misguided federal review, thrown across a Congressional hearing room, discussed at length in a Japanese book, litigated in a Pennsylvania courtroom, debated on national TV, and described in the pages of the erudite New Yorker. It has been lauded as a major breakthrough against cancer, dismissed as inconsequential, and despised as dangerous quackery.”

Thrown across a Congressional hearing room?  For a manuscript that is simply a collection of data.  For whatever reason, alternative cancer therapies create a very odd emotional response that goes well beyond the realm of logic.  From my research of many other alternative cancer practitioners,  I have found that this is not an isolated incident limited to Dr. Kelley and Dr. Gonzalez.  After awhile it becomes almost predictable.  For those curious about this issue, I would encourage you to check out this webpage http://www.whale.to/a/persecuted_doc_h.html on persecuted doctors.

So does Dr. Kelley pass the Medical records test of snake oil salesman?

He clearly had no reservation whatsoever allowing Dr. Gonzalez and

Dr. Good to examine his patient records.  How many doctors can attest

to having a complete list of over 10,000 patient records?  It was clearly a priority to Dr. Kelley to maintain accurate medical records for a variety of reasons.  Dr. Gonzalez commented in a youtube video that no one cared more about his patients than Dr. Kelley.  It was his mission to see them get well.  Dr. Gonzalez from start to finish was very impressed with the sheer volume of Dr. Kelley’s patient files, not to mention the success he found upon reviewing them.  Dr. Gonzalez was able to interview patients and therefore confirm the efficacy of the actual records.  His investigation agreed with Dr. Kelley’s claims of a 93% success rate and the exceptional success Dr. Kelley had with pancreatic cancer patients.

If you trust that Dr. Gonzalez and Dr. Good were capable of researching Dr. Kelley without bias, then I feel that it can be safely stated that Dr. Kelley passes the Medical Report test.  There is no record that I’ve found that Dr. Gonzalez or Dr. Good had anything to gain from Dr. Kelley’s promotion, in fact both of them received unfair accusations and condemnation for having studied Dr. Kelley.

The Verdict is in

As a whole, I feel I have sufficiently proven, using 3 common tests of quackery, that Dr. Kelley simply does not fit the bill as a charlatan.  He clearly was not in the cancer game for financial gain as he was already a successful othodontist and his cancer practice actually ruined him financially and personally.  He never hid his therapy from investigation and he actually greatly desired his cancer protocol to be properly evaluated.  He kept meticulous patient records which were independently verified by Dr. Gonzalez and Dr. Good.  These same doctors also verified Dr. Kelley’s success rate claims.  Dr. Kelley passed and surpassed all tests directed at him.  It is actually quite shameful how the medical establishment, the media, and the government treated this great man who saved so many sick people.  Testimony after testimony after testimony.  It would be well worth reading some of those testimonies for yourself.

The medical establishment terms testimonies as “anecdotal evidence” and basically gives some credence it.  At the same time anecdotal evidence is considered quite inferior to evidence based on “studies”.  Studies are generally multi-million dollar ventures which are controlled to test whether anecdotal evidence is reproducible in a controlled environment.  Unfortunately, Dr. Kelley’s dream was never fulfilled as he was never given the opportunity to complete clinical studies in a controlled study.  Finding funding and the medical will to complete this evaluation simply never happened, and I think that is strangely odd considering the success that Dr. Gonzalez uncovered.

I believe the success that Dr. Kelley achieved with his cancer therapy was not only due to his uncovering of Dr. Beard, Dr. Gerson, and Dr. Howell’s theories,  but also his superior intellect which allowed him to adjust to patients who needed more personal direction when the standard theories did not work for everyone.  His open-mindedness and flexibility allowed him to look outside the box and customize his treatments to the individual.  This may be one of reasons why his stats are difficult to reproduce even when following his protocol as most health professionals do not have Dr. Kelley’s intellectual adaptability.  For those 33,000 patients who were fortunate enough to receive treatments from Dr. Kelley, they witnessed a bright light that humanity has produced in a rare supply.  Hopefully, history will remember Dr. Kelley fondly by his cancer protocol becoming more widely recognized.  Dr. Gonzalez, even though his relationship soured with Dr. Kelley as Dr. Kelley had a mental breakdown later on in life, summarized the life of his mentor,

“In my estimation, Kelley, in his scientific thinking, was light years ahead of the rest of us, both orthodox and alternative. He deserves our respect for his accomplishments, for his trials and severe tribulations, and our forgiveness for his foibles. Someday, I believe his thoughts about the nature of cancer and human disease will become the foundation of a new medicine, not merely a fringe footnote, and the world will remember him at that time with well deserved appreciation. For now, let’s remember him kindly, with gratitude for what he did and what he tried to do.”

For those of you who have done your own research on Dr. Kelley and Dr. Gonzalez, you have probably come across a study by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Center (NCCAM) which is widely quoted throughout the internet which supposedly settles that chemotherapy is 3 times more effective than Dr. Gonzalez’s nutritional enzyme treatment.   Because this study is actually based own Dr. Gonzalez’s own practice of cancer therapy and not directly of Dr. Kelley own practice, I will save a discussion of this for my next blog.  And trust me, this study requires some discussion as it is a prime example of how a conflict of interest can wildly skew the actual results and that not all studies are created equal.

Cancer & the Big 3 therapies–opening a can of worms

Recently a good friend of mine for 20+years lost her battle with ovarian & colon cancer.  She followed the direction of her oncologist who prescribed the BIG 3 standard protocols for fighting cancer in conventional medicine.  Surgery, Chemotherapy, and Radiation therapy.  She fought this battle valiantly for about 2 years, and at times we thought she was on the road to recovery, yet in the end conventional medicine left her with no more options.  About 2 months before she passed away her oncologist told her that they had tried everything, and now there was nothing they could do for her.  What terrible news to receive.  I came to visit and pray for her one evening when this was all hitting the fan, and she told me that the worst part was that she had trusted her doctors direction all along the way, and now she was left to die.  What a feeling of abandonment.  She remained strong in her christian faith, but this sentence from the oncologist clearly took its toll. When I received this report via email, something inside me said, “I don’t accept that there is nothing that can be done!!”   I prayed to the Lord to give me wisdom about what I could do, and this sparked a fire in me to investigate the roots of cancer and alternative methods of therapy.  Previously, if I had contracted cancer myself I would have done exactly what my friend did–follow the advice of a trained oncologist without the thought of anything else.  After looking more closely at the big 3 protocols and alternative cancer therapies I realized I had just opened a can of worms.  I encountered what I believe to be a TRUTHBREAKDOWN.

What my research has uncovered is that there are over 400 conventional & alternative cancer treatment protocols that have been in use over the past few centuries and that there are over 200 more in the testing phase according the Independent Cancer Research Foundation.  So my question was and still is, why have our oncologists chosen the Big 3 cancer therapies (Surgery, Chemotherapy, Radiation) as the most common protocols for fighting cancer out of all the other options?  Surely they have been proven to greatly enhance 5 year survival rates?  My research has shown me that the success of the Big 3 is quite controversial.  The controversy surrounds whether these therapies actually do more harm than good and are they attacking the roots of the problem or just the symptoms.  Lets take a closer look at each:

**As a disclaimer, my research and opinions below are there as a commentary on conventional medical practices, and are not meant to be used as medical advice outside of the opinion of a medical doctor, which I am not.  Use the information to discuss with your health professional.

1) Surgery—

Photo of a breast biopsy.Stephen McCulley

This involves removing tumors by themselves, removing the tumor and surrounding tissue, or removing an entire body part (ie. breast) where the tumor resides.  The philosophy here is, the tumor is the enemy and must be removed.  If the tumor is removed without metastasis (spreading), it is considered a success.  What caused the tumor to develop in the first place is not addressed with surgery.  My research has shown me that a tumor may not be the enemy we’ve made it.  Some consider the tumor as our body’s way of protecting itself by localizing  the cancer cells, fungi, and microbes in a secure coating to keep it from spreading.  The tumor is actually saving the person from cancer metastasis.  Understanding this, one must seriously question the use of tumor biopsies which poke holes in the tumor to collect samples for testing.  I’ve found that many alternative practitioners vehemently oppose biopsies because they cause tumors to leak out the cancer cells, fungi, and microbes which then spread to another area in the body (metastasis).  There is concern that Mammograms (breast x-rays) may squish tumors to the point of breaking them, causing leakage as well.  There are alternatives to biopsies which test your cancer status by examining certain  antibodies or hormone levels in your blood (ie.  AMAS test, HCG hormone test, etc…).  See http://alternativecancer.us/cancer_testing.htm

Another consideration I’ve found with surgery is that oncologists tend to be a little ‘trigger happy’ with regards to removing body parts.  My mother-in-law had a cancerous tumor in her breast about 20 years ago and her oncologist suggested a mastectomy (complete breast removal).  Using her own common sense, she challenged her doctor saying that if her tumor was secure and localized, why not just remove the tumor instead of the entire breast!!  The oncologist relented and she still has her breast today.   One must wonder if surgery profit has some relation to this “trigger happiness”.   So Brent, what are you saying about tumors then, just leave them alone?  Well, surgery seems to make sense if the tumor growth is interfering with an essential organ (ie. digestive colon blockage), but if no imminent problem exists, it seems sensible to leave it alone and use alternative therapies known to attack the roots of tumor growth first–and yes there are many (I will save this for future blogs).  Remember tumors are  protecting the rest of your body, so you need to protect them from leaking.  With surgery there is always a chance of leakage.  Not only that, surgery of any kind has inherent risks such as blood clots which can travel to the heart, lungs, and/or brain causing a stroke or even death.  My mother-in-law (yes she has been through a lot)  had an operation on her heart valve, and consequently she had a stroke due to a blood clot from the operation.  Thank God she has recovered for the most part but it took time.  So if you can shrink your tumor(s) without surgery, that is the ideal scenario.  As you can see, I feel conventional oncology has been somewhat haphazard in their use of surgical methods.

2) Radiation Therapy

Computed Tomography Scanner

According to the National Cancer Institute, “Radiation therapy uses high-energy radiation to kill cancer cells by damaging their DNA”.  They also acknowledge “Radiation therapy can damage normal cells as well as cancer cells.”  Just like surgery, radiation therapy does not address the root cause behind the cancer and its focus is on killing the “bad” tumor.  So if the cancer cells are destroyed by DNA damage from the radiation, what about the DNA in the normal cells that become collateral damage?  According to Dr. Mark Sircus,

it is well established that exposure to ionizing radiation can result in mutations or other genetic damage that cause cells to turn cancerous but that has not stopped oncologists from using radiation therapy.”

News stories over the years from Chernobyl and the Fukushima nuclear disasters have generally educated the public about the dangers of radiation and its link to cancer.

So lets reiterate, radiation clearly causes cancer, yet at the same time radiation therapy is one of the most common treatments to cure cancer?  To me, this type of logic is like someone trying to put a fire out with gasoline!!  Yes, radiation therapy does shrink tumors and kill cancer cells.  And to be fair, my research has shown that newer technology is making radiation beams much more precise, thus a patient receives less radiation.  But, if we have options that shrink tumors without risking collateral radiation, should not that be the therapy used?

Much controversy has developed due to the interpretation of “response rate” vs. “survival rate”.  Yes, radiation therapy may have a very successful “response rate” with cancer tumors, meaning it is effective at shrinking tumors.  An oncologist may tell their patient that radiation may have a very high “response rate”,  and the patient may agree to the therapy thinking that what the doctor is talking about is “survival rate”.  They are definitely not the same.  My research has shown me that most studies on cancer therapy success are based on “response rate” or “5 year survival rates”.  To a nervous and fear ridden cancer patient, they probably do not realize there is a difference between the two.  My opinion  is, what good is it if my tumor shrinks if I do not survive the treatments or die shortly after?  Those who are very successful a fighting cancer through alternative therapies focus on building up the body’s natural defences by strengthening the immune system.  Radiation, similar to chemotherapy, does the complete opposite by killing cancer cells as well as the white blood cells which make up our immune system.  Many cancer patients, after receiving radiation therapy and chemotherapy, have little of any immune system left to fight any disease.  S.L. Baker writes. ”

Stephan Gripp, MD, of the University Hospital in Dusseldorf, Germany, and his colleagues investigated the treatment of terminally ill cancer patients who were referred for palliative radiotherapy at the University Hospital between December 2003 and July 2004. In all, they studied 33 of these patients, all of whom died within 30 days of receiving radiation therapy.”Learn more: http://www.naturalnews.com/028764_cancer_patients_radiation.html#ixzz1rnWGjyC4

Its not only the white blood cells that are killed, normal red blood cells are killed as well.  Many successful cancer therapies focus on increasing the amount of oxygen in the body, but when red blood cells (the carriers of oxygen) are killed, less oxygen is carried in the blood and the patient becomes anemic.  This further weakens the body’s ability to fight off disease.

According to the Independent Cancer Research Foundation, “Dr. William D. Kelley, a dentist by training, treated more than 33,000 cancer patients with natural medicine. His cure rate on newly diagnosed cancer patients, who went to him first, was over 90%.”   BUT!! when patients who have done conventional radiation, surgery, and chemotherapy first, then come to these type of alternative practitioners “the true cure rate of the best experts in alternative cancer treatments, on these types of patients, is between 40% and 50%.”   Though 40-50% is still pretty good in comparison to conventional methods, one can see the effect of how damaging radiation therapy and chemotherapy really are.

So Brent, are you saying radiation therapy should be totally avoided?  My research has shown that there may be times when radiation therapy may have some beneficial use.  For instance, if a tumor is growing very fast and intruding against a vital organ (ie. brain), because radiation can shrink tumors quicker than natural methods, a very precise beam directed only at the tumor may “buy some time” while a person is taking alternative therapies like Dr. Kelley.  Conversely, given all the harm that radiation therapy produces, I would not use radiation therapy unless there was an immediate need for it.   I would not view radiation therapy as curative, but maybe as a “life-raft” to buy time.  One must use common sense here.

I would also be wary of submitting to CT (“cat”) scans, Mammograms and X-rays which also emit radiation.   Jennifer Bails writes,

“a CT scan can deliver doses of ionizing radiation at least 50 to 250 times greater than a traditional X-ray, found a report published last November in the New England Journal of Medicine by researchers David Brenner and Eric Hall of Columbia University Medical Center. As a point of comparison, a CT scan of a child’s abdomen can supply the radiation equivalent of 600 chest X-rays. “

Instead I would push for thermal imaging, MRI, or ultrasound methods for analysis needs.  All doctors are supposed to abide by the Hippocratic oath, “I will keep them from harm and injustice”.  Knowing this, I feel Oncologists need to rethink their use of radiation therapy and radiation diagnostics.

3) Chemotherapy–

Real woman, diagnosed with breast and ovarian cancer.   Chemotherapy : Nurse Giving Patient Injection Through Tube Stock Photo  Chemotherapy : Close up of an infusion bottle Stock Photo  Chemotherapy : Drugs in a Daily Pill Dispenser

According to the National Cancer Institute, “Chemotherapy (also called chemo) is a type of cancer treatment that uses drugs to destroy cancer cells.  Chemotherapy works by stopping or slowing the growth of cancer cells, which grow and divide quickly. But it can also harm healthy cells that divide quickly, such as those that line your mouth and intestines or cause your hair to grow.”  Again like radiation therapy, chemotherapy do not address the root cause behind the cancer, and it is responsible for collateral damage to healthy cells.  It is a Kill, Kill, Kill approach which may have some success at “response rate” but there is great debate as to whether it has any success at “5 year survival rate”.

So what’s really go on here?  Biochemists have discovered cancer cells grow at a much faster rate than regular cells, so if a chemical can be injected that only kills fast-growing cells (cytotoxic), cancer cells and tumors will get killed.  The problem is cancer cells aren’t the only fast growing cells in the body.  Anywhere where there is cellular rejuvenation occurring gets hit with chemo including hair, mouth, digestive tract, and our all-important white blood cells.  Like radiation therapy, the loss of white blood cells is the part of chemo that doctors are most concerned about when administering it.  The immune system basically gets toasted, yet this is considered acceptable collateral damage.

As Gary Null and James Feast write,

“(After chemotherapy,) the hope is the cancer is going to be totally dead and you are only half dead and recover.”Learn more: http://www.naturalnews.com/012727.html#ixzz1rwnwusUx

Most successful alternative cancer protocols focus on building the body’s immune system and removing toxic chemicals from the body.  Chemo does the exact opposite, injecting highly toxic chemicals into body which destroy our immune system.  How toxic are these chemo drugs? According to Dr. Tim O’Shea,

When any chemotherapeutic drug is spilled in the hospital or anywhere en route, it is classified as a major biohazard, requiring the specialists to come and clean it up with their space-suits and all their strictly regulated protocols.”

So to heal people from cancer we are injecting “major biohazards” into them, and we are expecting them to get well?  Trying to put out a fire with gasoline comes to mind again.  But Brent, chemo wouldn’t be so widely used around the world for cancer therapy if it wasn’t a proven way to fight and cure cancer.  Sure, there may be some success stories but the more common testimony I read on the internet is someone who endures an awful period of grueling side effects only to be left in an incredibly weakened state.  The National Cancer Institute readily lists the side effects of chemo are anemia, loss of appetite, bleeding problems, constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, hairloss, infection, memory changes, mouth and throat changes, nausea and vomiting, nerve changes, pain, sexual and fertility changes, skin and nail changes, swelling (fluid retention), and urination changes. These potential symptoms are not what you would want to wish on anyone.  If the patient survives the chemo treatments, the cancer may go into a short period of remission and then come back like a freight train.  Linda Marsa, from the L.A. times, writes on the findings of Dr. Jonathan Berek on ovarian cancer,

Chemotherapy follows the surgery, and about 90% of patients then go into remission, a period of “watchful waiting.” “The problem is that over the next five to 10 years, as many as 90% of women will relapse and die,” says Berek.  When the cancer returns, in other surrounding tissue, the cancer is more virulent and resistant to chemotherapy.

This is exactly what my friend, mentioned at the beginning of this blog, experienced.  But Brent, even if chemo damages the body, it’s better than doing nothing?  Well, actually according to Dr. Allen Levin,

“Most cancer patients in this country die of chemotherapy. Chemotherapy does not eliminate breast, colon, or lung cancers. This fact has been documented for over a decade, yet doctors still use chemotherapy for these tumors.”

Did you catch that? Most cancer patients die not from the cancer but from the chemotherapy!!  Come on Brent, today’s chemo drugs are much more advanced now and you are making chemo seem worse than it really is.  Well, my friend just passed away a little over a month ago in 2012 and everything I’ve presented here in my research, I saw happen to her with own eyes.  So if chemo is so much more advanced now, why did the same terrible process I read about show up in her involvement with today’s modern oncology.

Here’s the facts, conventional oncology has made minimal advances in 5 year survival rates and has delivered a poor quality of life for those who endure the Big 3 cancer therapies.  There are literally hundreds of other options for cancer therapies that are termed “alternative”.  Most of these methods do little if any harm the body, are far less expensive, and have much higher success rates.  They focus on building up the body and treating the roots of cancer, not destroying patients bodies and treating symptoms.  Modern oncologists may term alternative practitioners as “quacks” because some have died in their care.  If death rates are how we judge doctors, modern oncologists should be considered “quacks” of the highest order.

My problem is not actually with doctors and oncologists, I have many friends in the profession.  Most doctors I’ve met are very kind and do genuinely care about their patients.  My problem is with the “system” they’ve inherited and the training they’ve been given at medical school.  When you take a closer look at our medical system, there are certain therapies that physicians are allowed to use, and alternative therapies that they are not allowed to use.  Doctors risk losing their licence to practice medicine if they use “alternative” methods.  No way Brent!! yes way.  Almost all of the best alternative cancer practitioners of the past & present have received some sort of backlash from the medical elite (I will save this for a future blog).  These Elite will say these alternative methods have not received proper testing or that patients have died using them.  A closer examination will reveal that it almost impossible to get proper funding and acceptance to carry out official testing on cheaper alternative methods.  The only therapies accepted are the expensive ones that have patents from pharmaceutical companies.  If money cannot be made to compensate Big Pharma for their “synthetic” drugs, they are not approved for testing.  Big money cannot be made on “natural” cancer fighting substances because they are ineligible for patents.

Make no mistake about it, cancer is big money.  According to the National Cancer Institute, in 2007 the cost (or should I say money earned) of cancer was $226.8 billion.  According to a study done by Harvard University, National Cancer Institute, and National Bureau of Economic Research in December 2007, the average cost/year/lung cancer patient (called cost effectiveness ratio) was $403,142/life year gained.   This comprised $143,614 for localized cancer, $145,861 for regional cancer, and $1,190,322 for metastatic cancer.  According to Sandra Boodman in the Washington Post, the annual cost of cancer pills can be well over $75000/year.  Add in surgery, CT scans, PET scans, radiation therapy, blood tests, medications, x-rays, and physician fees and you get the picture here.

Conversely, according to Mark Sircus who is a natural allopathic cancer practitioner,

The full cost for all the natural healing substances you will need will not exceed $6,000 a year. Instead of paying a fortune for a single pharmaceutical with toxic effects offering limited results one can nourish the body and attack the cancer with:

  • Magnesium Chloride
  • Iodine
  • Selenium
  • Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA)
  • Sodium Bicarbonate
  • Natural Vitamin C
  • Cesium Chloride
  • Sodium and Calcium Bentonite Clays
  • Natural Chelation Formula
  • Sodium Thiosulfate
  • Spirulina
  • Zeolite

Canadian and American politicians are struggling with the ever increasing healthcare costs and how to find ways to decrease waste in the system.   If natural cancer therapies cost $6000/year and conventional therapies cost $400,ooo++/year, why do we continue to throw billions of dollars at methods which are antiquated and barbaric.  The Big 3 cancer therapies give you taste of how Big Pharma and profit-driven protocols are destroying our healthcare system.  Of course, for most the main concern is the health of people, but when finances are misappropriated to wasted protocols, services are lessened to other well-deserving and life-giving healthcare. So here’s our decision.

Support expensive, barbaric, immune destroying, profit-driven cancer protocols OR cheaper, humane, immune-building, and body nourishing cancer protocols.  The choice seems simple, but our society has entered a truthbreakdown and only the brave can change the powers that be.

Here is a good summary analogy of the Big 3 cancer therapies that I found on the Independent Cancer Research Foundation website which they used from cancertutor.com,

Suppose you are very rich and own a very rare, priceless antique dining room table formerly owned by English royalty. Suppose your butler tells you that there are dozens of cockroaches crawling around on your priceless table and you will be having dinner guests in one hour.

Your butler tells you his job description does not include killing cockroaches and as he is leaving your house, he gives you four suggestions for getting rid of the cockroaches:

1) He offers you a chainsaw to “slash” the little critters to pieces,
2) He offers you a large and powerful flamethrower to “burn” the critters to pieces,
3) He offers you 2 gallons of a highly, highly toxic liquid chemical to “poison” the critters, and
4) He offers you an old $1 flyswatter.

Which of the four options would you pick? Would you choose one of the first three options (slash, burn and poison) because they are highly potent at killing cockroaches or would you choose the cheap, wimpy flyswatter?

This example may seem a little ridiculous, but it gives a reasonable analogy of the choices conventional oncologists give cancer patients.  Your body is worth much more than an antique dining table so you should consider that when choosing your treatments.

I will dedicate some of my future blogs to kinder, gentler, humane, and more effective natural treatments and alternative practitioners who have had success in battling cancer and chronic disease.

God Bless,
